Frequently Asked Questions

Why do some Therapists charge a slightly higher fee?

Some of our Therapists have specialisations or hold specialist certifications (EMDR, Gottman Method of Couples Therapy, etc.), which enable them to provide support for clients with more specific and severe issues such as trauma and addiction.

Nonetheless, all TYHO Therapists were selected through the same stringent process and are capable of recognising and helping with mental health issues listed on their profiles, including mild to moderate forms of depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or work-related stress.

Ultimately, the fit between the client and their Therapist is most important for achieving effective therapeutic outcomes.

Please see the profiles of all our Therapists here to select someone who suits your needs.

How many therapy sessions should I have?

At the beginning, you may wish to consider weekly sessions to build momentum and get to know your Therapist better.

Attending sessions regularly develops one’s emotional safety (Cameron, 2018) and allows one to foster trust and rapport with one’s therapist (Hall, 2020).

Too much time between sessions may delay one’s progress as more time may be spent catching up with one’s therapist from where things left off rather than working through one’s issues.

As for the number of sessions one requires, research indicates that after attending an average of 8 sessions (Foundation Psychology; Saxon et al., 2016), individuals report the greatest decrease in psychological distress and are most likely to experience positive changes in their lives.

It may also be helpful to note that individuals who decide to withdraw within or just after 3 sessions are less likely to experience positive outcomes as things often show signs of improvement after the third session (Crago & Gardner, 2012).

What is online counselling?

Online counselling is when counselling services are provided by a qualified Therapist (such as a counsellor or psychologist) through online mediums (audio/video calls, emails, live chats, etc.).

They generally offer greater accessibility, convenience, and flexibility than traditional in-person counselling, as sessions can be easily booked and attended online.

At Talk Your Heart Out (TYHO), online counselling sessions take place via audio or video conferencing on our platform.

A suitable device (e.g. laptop or mobile phone) and a good internet connection are all you need to get started.

Is online counselling effective?

Many studies have shown that online counselling is just as effective as in-person counselling in terms of improving one’s overall well-being and equipping one with coping methods to manage one’s challenges.

Being able to attend sessions from the comfort of one’s home has often made it easier for one to commit to seeking support and open up about one’s circumstances, thereby contributing to greater therapeutic efficacy.

In addition, online counselling may not be appropriate if one:

  • is in a crisis;
  • is suffering from a psychiatric disorder and/or experiencing psychosis such as hallucinations, delusions, or paranoia;
  • experiences severe or long-term mental health illness; and
  • engages in excessively risky behaviours such as heavy alcohol or drug use.

Individuals experiencing the above may wish to see a clinical psychologist or psychiatrist in-person for more immediate and direct support.

How can I reschedule / cancel my session?

Talk Your Heart Out (TYHO) has a minimum 24-hour rescheduling/cancellation policy. Therefore, we request your cooperation in avoiding rescheduling or cancellations within 24 hours of your appointment. This helps maintain fairness to our Therapists, who reserve their time for your session.

Please note that any payments made for appointments within this 24-hour time frame are non-refundable.

However, prior to this deadline, you can easily reschedule or cancel your session directly through the platform.

To do so, please log in to your Dashboard and scroll down to view your upcoming sessions.

  • If you click on “Reschedule,” you will have the option to select another available slot from your Therapist’s calendar.
  • If you click on “Cancel,” the payment you made will be refunded to your TYHO wallet as credits.
  • If you have applied a discount code, its usage will be reversed accordingly.
