Frequently Asked Questions

What is therapy?

There are many different types of therapy such as speech therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, etc.

When it comes to mental health, therapy usually refers to psychotherapy, or talk therapy. It involves speaking with a therapist, about some of the emotional struggles you are facing and working together to overcome them.

These struggles may relate to work, relationships, personal growth, life transitions, etc.

As you will work closely with your therapist throughout this journey, it is important to find someone you can trust and feel comfortable with.

What is online therapy?

Online therapy is the provision of mental health services and support through the Internet. You can speak with your therapist via audio or video calls, using your laptop, tablet, smartphone, etc.

If you are new to therapy, we recommend starting with online therapy to see if it works for you. It is generally more affordable, convenient, and flexible than in-person therapy!

Who are our Therapists?

Our panel of Therapists is made up of both psychologists and professional counsellors.

Psychologists have extensive knowledge of human emotions, behaviours, and mental processes, and are equipped to help with more severe issues that may require specific interventions over a longer period of time.

Professional counsellors employ a more holistic approach to providing support. They focus on their clients’ wellbeing and help them process their thoughts and emotions on specific issues.

There may be several similarities among them in terms of their training and approaches, and the types of issues they help with.

Regardless, all Talk Your Heart Out Therapists have a minimum of a Master’s in counselling, and are capable of identifying and assisting clients with the more prevalent mental health issues, such as anxiety, anger management, depression, etc.

How much does therapy cost in India?

The cost of therapy differs from place to place in India, and also boils down to several different factors. These include:

  • the city you live in
  • the type of organisation/practice you go to
  • the therapist you see (eg psychologist or professional counsellor)
  • the issues you seek support for
  • the medium of your session (online or in-person)

Online therapy in India is usually a more affordable option. As a general gauge, it can cost you between ₹1500 to ₹3500 per session. As therapy is a commitment of both your time and money, it is important to plan your budget and expenses well.

What are the available slots, and how do I book a session?

The slots that each mental health Therapist provides are listed on their individual profiles. Simply click on “Book a Session” to select a date and time that best suits you.

Most of our Therapists usually have slots available as soon as 24 hours away and throughout the week.

If you have any further questions or need help choosing a Therapist, please email us at [email protected] or WhatsApp us at +65 9831 0005.

How can I tell whether I need therapy?

Everyone deals with their challenges differently. When we have reached our limits, it is okay to seek external help.

If you are not sure whether you need therapy, here are some common signs to pay attention to:

  • You have been feeling down for a prolonged period of time.
  • You have been facing the same problem over and over again, and do not know how to solve it on your own.
  • You find it hard to talk to your family or friends about the things that are troubling you.

If you are facing one or more of the above, it could be helpful to take some time to reflect on your needs. You can easily access online therapy in India.

What is the difference between a psychiatrist, clinical psychologist, psychotherapist, professional counsellor and social worker?

Psychiatrist: Diagnoses mental health conditions and can prescribe medication.

Clinical Psychologist: Diagnoses mental health conditions, and manages more serious mental health disorders non-medicinally in the long-term.

Psychotherapist: Focuses on your thought processes and helps you identify the root causes of your issues using specific therapeutic modalities and approaches.

Professional Counsellor: Employs an eclectic approach and draws from several integrative therapies to help people work through personal and emotional issues.

Social Worker: Works with and advocates for individuals and families, and liaises with various parties in the community on behalf of client.
